Sometimes you think in proportions, not pixels: half-size for the doc, quarter-size for the thumbnail. The percentage commands scale the image while keeping the aspect ratio, and pair naturally with format changes — photo.50%.webp halves the image and converts it in one rename.
It's the fastest resize on macOS because there is no app: Finder is already open, the file is already selected, and Return is the export button.
